If I get a tattoo, will people think I am trying to capture youth?

I am 36. I have really thought about my motives and I believe that I am comfortable with my age. I am not looking for sports cars or affairs with young men. I%26#039;m not trying to be something I am not. I dress age appropriately etc.... I want to get a tattoo. It%26#039;s been on my mind for a while. I would like something stylish with color. I am happily married with a child. I really want to do it for myself. And to be perfectly honest, I have always admired women who get tattoos in a way. They seem independent and so confident.

I am starting business school in September. I am being silly because I am wondering if as a professional if the tattoo will hurt my career. I want to get one on the back of my leg or on my foot. Or I guess my back shoulder but that seems so boring. And no way the ankle. But maybe around my waist. I would love to get one behind my ear or at the nape of my neck but I don%26#039;t know if I have the guts to do that.

Just wondering your experiences.
If I get a tattoo, will people think I am trying to capture youth?
Get it anywhere that your clothes will cover. Trust me.
If I get a tattoo, will people think I am trying to capture youth?
I got ALL my tats in my 30%26#039;s. Old enough to be smart enough about my decisions. Think it thru, if you like it and your in the mid 30%26#039;s, I say go for it! Just be careful, ink can be addictive, I%26#039;m quite a %26quot;colorful%26quot; guy now!
Reply:I haven%26#039;t gotten a tattoo yet, but I plan to as soon as I can.

I think it%26#039;s an amazing thing to have, and not something to be ashamed of. It can symbolize your life, your future, basically anything that means something to you. As long as its not %26quot;outrageous%26quot;, but I definitely don%26#039;t think there%26#039;s anything wrong with you getting a tattoo. I think it would be really amazing.

Best of luck! :)
Reply:you should get barbed wire quartersleeves (around the bicep kinda thing) looks totally badass and is covered by a suit, seriously though, during a board meeting or something you could role up your sleeves and kick some serious *** (figuratively?)
Reply:Darli%26#039;n do what you want, you have earned it.
Reply:There%26#039;s a teacher at my school who has tattoos everywhere on his torso. You know why it%26#039;s on his torso? It%26#039;s because he can cover it when looking for a job. It%26#039;s better to cover your tattoos so people wont have bad thoughts about you and you can get a job better that way. My teacher explained that to my class. Get a tattoo on a place where you can cover it.
Reply:I%26#039;m about your age and I think tattoos are great...BUT...since you are going into a professional career, I recommend getting one somewhere on your body that is normally covered by clothing. Although tattoos are common, the business world may see it differently. The only other thing I would keep in mind is that they are permanent, so be sure to pick something you won%26#039;t mind looking at for the rest of your life!
Reply:Get it someplace inconspicuous so that when youre in your profession it isn%26#039;t visible. But out of the job who cares? Lots of people have tats!! Get 1 or 2 if you want. I have 2 on my back.
Reply:i think it%26#039;s awesome that you want to get a tattoo for yourself - that%26#039;s how it should be. and if you%26#039;re getting it for yourself, it shouldn%26#039;t matter what people think of it, even at your age.

since you do seem worried about how it would make you appear as a business person, maybe you should get it in an inconspicuous place - like your leg (which can always be covered by pants), or your foot (always covered by shoes), or on your waist (always covered by a shirt/pants).
Reply:i have one on the back of my neck and love it!

good thing about it is that its very easily hidden with hair, so when i have to look professional, i can simply wear my hair down and its not an issue.

if youre planning on going into the business world, i suggest you get one in a place that is easily hidden (back of neck, foot, hip, or anywhere that you can easily cover with clothing)

dont be afraid.

it really doesnt hurt much at all and its a very liberating experience.

i say go for it!

good luck and best wishes :)
Reply:any tattoo that people can, see, that you cant hide at work on a hot summer day is going to hurt your career
Reply:Nobody will think that. You wouldn%26#039;t be, by far, the first one over 30 to get their first tat.
Reply:There should be no problem with getting the tattoo. It%26#039;s YOUR body but I do believe that it effects you getting a decent job or not, because I used to work at Sonic and a guy who had tattoos all on his arms also worked there and that%26#039;s not a good place to work, also he had got fired. Anyway, think about your decision WISELY.
Reply:I am 50 and I just got my first tattoo. I wanted this tattoo for many years, but thought I would wait, to make sure that I really wanted it, and also because I wanted to make a journey before I got the tattoo, so it would mean something.

The tattoo is on my wrist, so it shows, though I could cover it with a long sleeve if I ever felt the need.

I am very very happy with it.

36 is young, don%26#039;t worry!
Reply:As a professional, I know what you mean. Choose a spot on your body that is discreet so you don%26#039;t have to share it in your professional world. In my opinion, men with tats on their back, in between their shoulder blades are hot :) Anyways, I say go for it! Tattoos are not about capturing youth so much as expressing yourself. And you know what, so what if you do want to capture youth... we lose it so fast! So, I say GO FOR IT! And I reccomend somewhere that you can cover it while you%26#039;re at work. :)
Reply:I am married with kids and I have a full sleeve and several other %26quot;small%26quot; tattoos. Professionally, it may hinder you so I suggest getting it in a spot that can easily be covered. I had to cover up my sleeve every day at work and it was a pain.
Reply:hey im only 16, but my mom is 33 and she just got a colored tattoo of an orchid going down her foot. it looks really classy and stunning with high heels.

age really is just a number it isn%26#039;t anything really. i think you should get one if thats something that would make you happy. you should care what others think if its something that makes you feel good or happy =]

times are changing and people are getting alot more lenient about the whole tattoo thing considering 1 in every 5 people has one but since your not sure where you gonna end up in the big scheme of life yet i would suggest getting one that can easily be hidden or kept secret..

I hoped this helped.

just remember you beautiful with or without it.

confidence is everything
Reply:I just got my mom a tat for Mother%26#039;s day, and she%26#039;ll be 48 this year. The average age of a woman that gets a tattoo nowadays is 51 and has 4.5 grandkids. You%26#039;re a great age. Any age is great, once one has a fairly stable mind (as in not just 18 and looking to tick mom and dad off).

I%26#039;ll warn you, though: tattooing is addictive. You forget the cost and the (albeit, shortlived) pain.

Reply:No, i dont think that people would think that you are trying to capture youth. I was actually just talking to my aunt about an hour ago and she was telling me about hoow she rly wants a tattoo, shes abt 55.

I believe that tatoos sre something special that has meaning to the person wearing it. Therefore if you get a tattoo that has meaning to you-- screw what everyone else thinks.

Since your starting business school i suggest getting it somewhere that will not be seen, somewhere that clothes cover.

May i just ask why you said %26quot;And no way the ankle%26quot;? I read that and became really confused. Is there a specific reason for why you dont want a tattoo on your ankle??

Well good luck in whatever you do! =)
Reply:You are NEVER to old to get a tattoo. I say if you really want it... Go For It !! I will be 36 this year and I am 2/3 the way done with the sleeve I am getting on my right arm. I to also have a professional career. There are really only 2 places you cant cover a tattoo.... the backs of your hands and your face. Other than those two places you can cover anything else. That is what long sleeves and pants are for. They even have make-up to cover tattoos. And as far as having the guts to do it. You have birthed a child ( I have 2 kids) you CAN have a tattoo. There is no comparison. It is a proven fact that women handle pain better than men. The design possibilities are endless. It is just a matter of what you prefer. I would recommend that you ask the tattoo artist to draw something for you so that you have something that is original. The two most important things to remember while you are being tattooed are firstly remember to breathe and secondly hold still. Holding still is extremely important, this will have a huge effect on how your tattoo comes out. Do you want nice straight on point lines or line work that is shaky and wavy. I have tattoos all over and I am very proud of them. My husband has been a professional tattoo artist for 21 years this year. If I could I would probably get a new tattoo every week. LOL. I really hope this helps. Good Luck !
